North Kingstown Arts Council Events and Projects

The Arts Council works year-round to develop and support arts programs in North Kingstown.  Below is some information on events and projects the Arts Council is currently working on.

wickfordWickford Lighthouse Project

In collaboration with Historic Wickford, a local organization dedicated to preserving the history of Wickford village, the North Kingstown Arts Council is venturing into new territory by supporting this special three-dimensional art project.

Dominic Zachorne, a North Kingstown builder and restorer of ship models, has been commissioned to build a model of the Wickford Lighthouse which stood at the entrance to Wickford Harbor on Gay Rock from 1882 until the early 1930's.  Once completed, Mr. Zachorne's model will be a lasting tribute to Wickford's rich history as a thriving seaport and will be on public display throughout our town.

"Shakespeare at the Beach"

"Shakespeare at the Beach" is a staple of the North Kingstown Arts Council program.  A highlight of our "Shakespeare at the Beach" has been annual performances by Trinity Repertory Company's Summer Shakespeare Project.  Over the past five years, Shakespeare productions by Ricardo Pitts-Wiley's Mixed Magic Theatre have been the mainstay of our program.  In addition, the Colonial Theatre of Westerly, RI brought their production of Much Ado About Nothing to North Kingstown for a two-week run in August 2004.
